This starter kit offers exceptional value for money and is a simple way to begin to understand and play with light control. By first fitting the reflector to the flash head and turning on the modelling light, you can begin to see roughly the area of subject that will be lit by the flash. The reflector helps to define and limit the illumination. When fitted, the Honeycomb Grid helps to further narrow and concentrate the light and produces a hard and even field of light and is good for lighting a small area.

The barn doors are typically used with the small hard lighting produced by the standard reflector. By moving and blocking the light, you can narrow or widen the beam of light.

There are three reasons why you might use lighting gels:

1. As a highlight or key light - create separation between subject and background or to add definition to a subject.

2. Colour correction - to balance flash lighting with ambient and available natural light.

3. Special effect lighting - your main light source is coloured and creates an overall colour cast.

The four colour gels in this kit are an easy and effective way to explore adding a creative effect light.
