A beauty dish is a great way to mimic natural window light and is the ultimate accessory for portrait and fashion photography. The white colour and matt finish of these dishes create a subtle semi-hard light source that is not possible with an umbrella or softbox. The Beauty dish helps to give facial features definition, with beautiful shadows and catch lights.
Due to its smaller size the 40cm may offer more flexibility and control, in terms of how close you can position it to your subject.
The internal reflector blocks all direct light from the flash tube which is bounced back into the dish. This gives a semi-hard light, without creating a hot spot. To maximise the benefits of this light shaping tool also consider purchasing the optional diffuser cap or honeycomb grid. Both of these optional extras further soften and control the quality of the light.
